PIANO TRIO IMPRESSION

The emerging Belgian piano trio ‘Impression’, winner of all three prizes at the international ‘Storioni Toonzaal Prijs’ 2015 (NL), was founded in 2011 by sister and sister Fien and Riet Van den Fonteyne (violin & violoncello) and pianist Florestan Bataillie. These passionate musicians began their professional affiliation at the international chamber music festival Musica Mundi before pursuing studies at the Royal Conservatories of Antwerp and Brussels, where they have obtained top grades on every occasion. They have performed at Flagey, Bozar, Flemish Opera Ghent, deSingel, only to name a few of the most important Belgian concert scenes.
This young piano trio is characterized by a highly expressive musical communication and seemingly direct contact between the audience and the performers. Their repertoire ranges from the familiar classical masterpieces of Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Rachmaninoff etc. to newly composed music.
The trio members participated in masterclasses, both as soloists and as an ensemble, with renowned performers and respected professors including Gavriel Lipkind, Alexander Melnikov, Boyan Vodenitcharov, Antje Weithaas, Thomas Dieltjens, Leonid Kerbel, ensemble Oxalys… From its founding, the piano trio ‘Impression’ has been coached by Dirk Vermeulen.
Piano trio ‘Impression’ recorded a first CD back in 2013 with works by Rachmaninoff, Haydn and Brahms. Last season, they expanded their boundaries and performed in Levanger (Norway), Eindhoven (the Netherlands) and Porto (Portugal). Their selection for ‘Jonge Oost-Vlaamse Solisten’ resulted in a recital tour in March 2015. Last but not least, in June they played at the World Expo in Milan (Italy).
During the upcoming season, they are planning a second CD recording with works by Suk, Martinu, Dvorak and Haydn. Pianotrio Impression is very grateful for the help and support of SWUK.
